does what it should so far. I've cooked rice in it 3 or 4 times, twice I've set a timer to finish when I wake up (yes, rice for breakfast) and it's worked great. But there is a slight learning curve. Let me explain what I think works best when cooking rice in this thing. It may work this way with all rice cookers, but this is the only one I've ever had, so I can only talk about this one. Rule #1: When cooking rice, don't follow the directions that come with it. First follow the instructions on the rice package and then adjust it. After making the first batch, I followed the directions that came with it and the rice came out sticky like noodles. For the second batch I followed the directions on the packaging of the rice which was the same but with less water and it came out a lot better but still a little stickier than I would have liked so I reduced the amount of water a bit and now it comes out ideal. Rule #2: The stickier, the more water. So far I have only cooked white rice. Not sure about the brand, but it's an Asian brand of "white rice" and not jasmine or any other type of rice.
