My 3 year old loves jigsaw puzzles. He's so busy and active, but as soon as a mystery arises, he's determined and focused. I have bought many jigsaw puzzles and have found that Melissa and Doug make the best jigsaw puzzles and this one is no exception. Here are a few considerations: Details: These pieces are large, sturdy, and fit together well. I've found that cheaper jigsaw puzzles have pieces that don't slide together easily or are slightly bent so they open with little to no movement. These pieces are thicker than standard pieces so they slide together and stay there. With other brands my son can sometimes put the part in the right place but as they are either too difficult to put together or don't slide together he will think it is wrong and send the part back. He has no problems with them at all. The puzzle pieces are also finished with a glossy material on both sides, meaning the bottom is no ordinary brown cardboard. It's definitely a sign of slightly better quality! Design: My son is obsessed with trucks, fire engines are at the top of his list of favorites (right behind excavators and school buses). It was very nicely done. The puzzle consists mainly of three horizontal rows, except where the wheels are, there is an additional element deep. This makes it easy to work on it in a systematic way, top-down, bottom-up, or side-to-side. It has some nice cues like a green stripe at the bottom, a rope in the middle, and pipes at the top. My son just turned 3 and can solve this riddle on his own (if I sit with him and advise him to keep going when he's frustrated). Size: For some reason, a giant jigsaw puzzle definitely adds to the coolness. When finished it looks amazing! Overall, I highly recommend this puzzle. This is something that should last a long time and will definitely catch my sons attention.
