The toast timer will then freeze and stop ticking, cooking something in the toaster indefinitely, unless you realize you should've already heard a chime or smell of smoke from whatever you accidentally set on fire. Since then, toast and pastry knives have started to freeze and are now virtually useless unless you plan on standing and watching the food being prepared. Very surprised that this toaster broke down after just a few months and lasted less than two years. General. I've always considered Black and Deck to be a safe choice for home appliances. I've seen toaster timers get stuck before, and over the years I've turned the dial to maximum and then back down to whatever time I needed to fight it. However, this particular toaster actually started ticking and then stopped in the same spot each time (about 45 seconds left?) instead of stopping at all. If you are interested in toasters this problem has been known for years, I just don't see how it can still be a problem with a timer that should be improved by a dime on the dollar. Of course, my warranty has long expired, so it's too late for me, but maybe not for you! Switch to a digital timer and avoid that toaster!
