This version has a magnetic plate. With traditional Scoshe products, the magnet plate is placed in the center of the device where all forces are balanced. When charging Qi, the plate should move towards the bottom of the phone. A plate works like a pivot, and on a large phone like the Samsung Note or Galaxy+, the phone can rotate on the back enough that it either comes out of the charging pad or even falls over. This is usually the case when the mount is near vertical and the car is moving along the plane of the mount (sharp turns when looking at the car from behind, or accelerating/braking when the phone is pointed sideways). Newer versions with a magnetic plate at the top and bottom solve the problem. I took the mount out of the car and it works great as a desktop charger/cradle, but that's not what I originally bought it for. The charging itself is very good and I don't have any pauses or errors like some other Qi chargers.
