Tool melts when heated

I bought it for all the tips and the heavy duty adjustable temperature controller. I had an old Plaid brand instrument with just a tip and temperature setting. When this tool was turned on to just over 50% on the temperature scale, the three tools (and I needed higher temperatures for the hardwood I used) melted plastic around the metal tip (where it was threaded so you could screw in the tip). ) melted, and then the tip wasn't securely fixed, it moved a lot making it difficult to control your lines. I ended up using the new tips from it in my old plaid tool.
