Very interesting Van Gogh! Try two strands instead of three right from the start!
I haven't embroidered in 20 years and it was a lot of fun. The Starry Night pre-print makes this incredibly easy, especially given the size of the final product. The instructions are very weak and don't specify thread count or stitch style so I started with 3 threads and a full stitch and I ran out of all colors so now I'm trying to do 2 threads without affecting the overall result and it seems working. I know I can easily run to the fabric store for more colors, but who wants to do that 60 color medium stitch?! All in all, a very fun and inexpensive healing activity!
