The pump looks like metal in the picture but is actually cheap plastic. The silver plating on the pump began peeling off almost immediately, and greenish (copper-like) stains appeared on the reservoir due to the wear of the plating. The brushed nickel on the bottom starts to rust after a few months and I've tried my best to keep it dry. The water that runs down the walls of the tank is collected in a metal base. Keep that in mind if you wash it off and then accidentally knock it over. The first time I did this I spilled water on the bathroom floor. If the pump was better it wouldn't be such a bad product but for now I think it will need to be replaced soon as the peeling coating looks quite unsightly.
