Sleek, Attractive Dual Intensity LED Under Cabinet Light with Motion Sensor

GE's 24" LED Under Cabinet Light is a great way to illuminate your kitchen counter or other workspace. The light is even, soft and beautifully colored (you have three light color options). The two lighting levels are very useful. The motion sensor works fine for me. MOTION SENSOR: After installation, I found that the motion sensor works well. Instead of a moving wave, I hold the back of my hand near the sensor for a split second. The comments here made me wonder how well the motion sensor would work, and my pre-installation experiments with it were inconclusive. But installed while it works fine in our setup. It can help to clean the sensor from time to time (use something soft and non-abrasive). The motion sensor is on the right side when you mount this light under a cabinet with the strip lighting area facing you. (Light travels more in one direction than the other, it's not symmetrical.) So check where you plan to install it to make sure the sensor's position is right for you. PLEASANT, UNIFORM LIGHT: The light is even and looks great. . The length of the LED downlight distributes the light over the entire counter or work area. The LED itself is one long strip of light, not many small dots. Both ensure more even lighting. TWO CONVENIENT LIGHTING LEVELS: There are two levels of lighting, which is very convenient. (I'd find cycling three times tiresome.) When it's on, the brightness is 820 lumens, about the brightness of a 60-watt incandescent bulb. (However, it appears brighter than a 60W room lamp because it is near the countertop.) The next level of brightness is 25% of that brightness. This lower level is suitable for additional room lighting or as a night light that is not too bright. I also have an 18 inch 640 lumen fixture (or the equivalent of a 50 watt bulb). It's not much less light, so if you don't have room for a 24-inch light this is a good alternative. THREE COLORS OF LIGHT: With a small, easy-to-use switch, you can select a soft, warm white light (3000 K). , bright cold white (4000K) or daylight (5000K). I prefer 3000K warm white light for all my LED bulbs so having that option is great. It can happen that we want a different color; This device makes switching easier. INSTALLATION: Getting the two screws just the right distance apart is a little tricky and they need to be set EXACTLY right for it to work. Try gluing the template to the body and drilling a (shallow!) pilot hole or marking the spot with an awl. I used a template to mark the locations with a pencil but that still resulted in the screws being removed. You may also need to experiment a bit with how much space you leave between the head of the screw and the body so that it's loose enough to install but tight enough to hold the light inside. It only takes a minute to find out. CHOOSE THE RIGHT MODEL: There is more than one model of GE 24" LED downlight and not all have the same features. So make sure you order and get the right model. Jasco bought GE's lighting business. So if you search for the manufacturer's website, it will show up under Jasco. MOTION SENSOR UPDATE 2021: I'm seeing a bunch of comments about motion detection. All I can say is that he's done a great job for us over the past few years. I found it best to keep my hand a few inches below the sensor. You need to know where the sensor is (on the right, see above). The only problem I've ever had, and not a big problem, is that if I had something directly under the sensor, it could change the light level; and some things obsessed him. I like these lights very much.
