I bought this DVD burner about a month ago and I have to say it works great. Any medium I threw at him was read and written with no problem. It burns very quietly and of course very quickly. I haven't had a single failed write yet (except once when I tried the "overwrite" option in my burning program, which supposedly lets you write a bit more data than the disk can handle, I don't know how it was planned to to achieve this, but it didn't work in the end, you might need special media). I'm using this on an Ubuntu Linux system (7.10 and then 8.04) (although the box says "Windows", don't worry if you're using Mac OS X, Linux or any other operating system). I installed it in my Dell Dimension 8100 and it worked like clockwork. Haven't tried it on Windows yet, but I'm sure it will work just as well. Oh, and one thing I didn't realize when I bought it is that it has an extra set of bezels for those of you with a black case. The bezel replacement instructions were a bit confusing, but I figured it out in the end. All in all, I'm glad I paid a few bucks more for the Sony. Their quality in computer components is still pretty damn good.
