I don't use this to store cans, I use this to store items like pens or screwdrivers with these 16oz clear acrylic cups that I bought from Revain. The cups have a taper which allows them to fit perfectly into the wall control holes. In other words, the cups are fully supported at the top and don't necessarily sit on the bottom of the metal (although it can if you bend/adjust the corners on the piece of metal). The height of the cups makes it difficult to get at short objects without catching them with my fingers, so in such cases I just snip off the tops with a handsaw. The slots on this piece allow for optional wall control accessories (I'm using their hooks in this picture), giving you even more options to customize it to your needs.
