Did NOT work right out of the box. Actuator shuts down causing BAD controller intervention

*** UPDATE: About a month later it shuts down randomly. *** I will say that in the end I made it. It was a bit difficult. GOOD: Plenty of storage space at a reasonable price. Compact. PS4 will be recognized immediately. THE BAD: The PS4 recognized the drive right away and I was able to set it up as extended storage. I wanted to move 3 games to extended storage and it got stuck on file transfer for about 2 hours. I tried to cancel and got no response. No other apps were open if that might be an issue. The system wouldn't shut down, so I unplugged the front USB port and it immediately shut down with no issues. After rebooting, the hard drive needed to be "repaired", so I let the system repair it. It still wouldn't carry games. I went in, reformatted the drive and set it up again as an extended drive and now it works. BAD UPDATE: After apparently getting it to work, it accidentally shut down and the PS4 needed a "fix". Also, I have HUGE issues with Bluetooth interference in my controller when the drive is plugged in. I'm finding out that this external drive is causing more trouble than it's worth. It's advertised as a peripheral that "plugs into the PS4 and you're done," which turned out to be not the case for me. The drive worked fine for a while, but the issues make me skeptical about the longevity of the drive. Now that it randomly shuts down and has serious controller interference issues, I wouldn't recommend this drive. I would recommend just following the instructions on the Sony Playstation website to swap out the internal drive and purchase a new internal drive. More time to set up, but less hassle overall.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • I'm worried
