My cats are working cats - their job is to keep the rodent population on our farm. But I want them to be comfortable and happy so that everyone has a place with a roof over their heads, a bowl of warm water and food available at all times. Our largest cat lives in our unheated three-season room and I bought him a soft-walled "cat igloo" a few years ago. It worked great. He slept in it often throughout the winter and it kept him warm. However, when the feather began to warm up, he stopped sleeping in it and started curling it up to sleep on it. So I couldn't bring him back to his former form this year so he could sleep on cold winter days and nights. I was looking for something tame to avoid this problem and thought I hit the jackpot when I found this device. At $55 it was pricey compared to the previous model, but I figured I cared enough to splurge and after ordering, I was excited for its arrival. I put it together right away and unlike some other reviewers, I really had no trouble snapping it shut and turning corners. The only problem I had was when I turned the last corner and unzipped it. It turned out that the zipper was attached with two very thin wires (like a thin micro USB charging cable) so it's not surprising that it didn't work. I was very annoyed that such a cheap component was installed in such an expensive product. I had to take a pair of pliers and use them to finish the stitching of the zipper. If it were something that was likely to zip and unzip frequently I would contact customer service to request a replacement, but under the circumstances I just used pliers and found it to be fine. essentially useless. I think most cats find it too hot in there, less airflow, plus it's such a flimsy plastic that it doesn't sit flush with the door. Luckily it was attached with a very small Velcro strap so I was able to take it off easily. Note to Seller: Forget the plastic door flap and spend your extra pennies on a better quality zipper. At this point I was excited about the device. I have plugged in the heat mat and installed it in season 3's room and am looking forward to my cat discovering and using it. But day after day I watched him sleep on the pillow next to her, not inside her. I tried putting some of his food in the back to encourage him to come in. He stepped on the front half of his body to eat a bite, then moved back onto the pillow. It finally dawned on me why he refused to enter: the door was too small. I agree - my cat is a big cat. He weighs 25 pounds - not fat, just tall and long. Because of this I thought this device would be perfect for him as it is larger than many similar items. Although the closet is the perfect size for him, the door is too small and he was afraid to go all the way inside. patrol there for us.
