Two years ago, I finally gave up counting how many spikes, rather than voids, I would notice when I changed my shoes in the spring and made the conversion to friction shoes. Bridgestone opted for the latter because he valued Japanese craftsmanship. I never bought the "cheapest" tires because I only get one shot at life and I didn't spend three years paying off a car loan so I could gash myself on the tires. Two years later, I can confidently tell that the tires were worth every penny. The car no longer bounces down the track, I can rebuild with ease, I can drive in the snow and on the oatmeal, and I can brake with precision. Just how I had hoped for. There is no unique wear on the tread, no hernias, and no bald spots. Excellent value for the cost. I've decided for myself, and two seasons of testing have verified it, that Velcro and spikes are superior.
