The sub-compartments are separated by Velcro and can be separated as needed. I also love the fact that I can fold it down to a smaller size and it's still big enough for me to notice so it doesn't stay in a hotel room. . Plus, enhanced transparent windows show what you've packed (or, conversely, what you're missing). I recommend this for people who travel frequently.
