I wanted to add a review for this detector. After reading a lot of negative reviews about the mount that almost put me off this product, I want to clarify something. Escort changed the mount on which many negative reviews were based. I don't know when they changed it, but it now comes with a sticky suction cup for the windshield side and a magnetic "tab" mount (for lack of a better term) for the radar detector side. The radar detector has a slot and you simply slide it over the bar on the bracket. You will feel the magnet "click" as it engages. He's holding it very tight. The suction cup mount never fell off the windshield and the detector never fell off the mount. I like to keep my detector out of sight of thieves. This mount makes it VERY easy to remove and attach the detector. If poor mount reviews are the only thing stopping you from buying this radar detector, fret not. The new style is great. Now to the detector itself. I wouldn't call myself a SPEEPER. I regularly drive 5-10mph over the limit and in my area that's enough to get me a ticket. The thing works great. For the first few days, he consistently gave me K-Lane warnings on the freeway I drive regularly, which was only completed last year. Because it's an entirely new highway, it's packed with technology. It has traffic monitors every mile or so, and I'm guessing that's where all the K-band alerts came from. After a few days of driving, the GPS built into the radar detector "learned" those areas and blocked them as false threats. I still get a visual alert on the device itself, but it no longer beeps. The same goes for the supermarket down the street from my house. Automatic doors in some stores use a low-power radar signal to detect when a person is approaching. This signal is picked up by detectors on the roads in front of these locations. The first few times I passed the supermarket, the radar detector went on. After the third pass, it automatically saved the location and also blocked the beeper when I passed. I love this feature! In just a few weeks of driving this detector has learned all the false threats on my usual route and remains very quiet. Now I'm almost amazed when I get a real speed camera warning because that almost always means it's from a legitimate source. This is what you expect from a radar detector. The cheaper detectors on the market consistently generate so much noise that your first reaction is to just assume it's a false alarm. You get caught for speeding. Finally, I'm impressed with the distance this detector picks up threats from. It'll start to recognize the signal and of course I'll start looking for where it's coming from. I can not see anything. The fear keeps mounting, and sometimes it's another mile or more before I finally see the cop the radar is coming from. I was just amazed by this radar detector. Of course there are newer and more expensive versions of this detector, but for the money you can't beat it. And for people like me who almost bought the 9500ix because it had more and better reviews, the Max Detector is the predecessor of the 9500ix and offers more features and better performance in every way. Don't let the lack of reviews for Revain fool you.
