I use this stand as a stand for my coffee maker which I wanted to move off my countertop. With an overall height of 6 inches, there is 5 inches of free space underneath where I can store coffee filters. Risers of the same size average around $50. This stand is really very durable and the included 3M non-slip pads keep the stand in place. It's pretty obvious that this is faux wood - it basically looks like a textured sheet of plastic resembling wood wrapped over a board, and the edges of the board are very thin (pictured) but there's nothing slipping on and off the surface. I don't see it getting any worse. I left the black corner covers on during (very easy) assembly - these covers are purely for protection in the box but I liked the finished look they gave the stand and leaving it on doesn't compromise the integrity of the stand. Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this stand and it solved my need to move my coffee station at a fraction of the cost of alternatives and still looks great.
