Review on LaCie 80GB Firewire External Hard 💾 Drive | P3 Design by FA Porsche by Sameer Hilton

I bought this hard drive 3 months ago to use as extra storage for my iBook. I bought it with caution because it didn't get reviews and because the reviews for the big Porsche Lacie rims weren't enthusiastic. However, I didn't really need more than 100GB of storage space, I didn't need a backup button, I appreciated the design and the good price, and all that sets me apart from the rest. I use it almost exclusively to store music files and digital photos. So far it has worked almost perfectly with iTunes and iPhoto in this regard. Setup was very easy and it came pre-formatted HFS+ (I think), although I formatted it myself to make sure it wasn't difficult using the instructions in Lacie's online documentation. The online documentation was also very good, which for me is another aspect that sets it apart from others. The only worries I had and the reasons I don't give it 5 stars are: 1) When I first copied my iTunes library, it got stuck on a song and wouldn't continue. I deleted the song from my library and everything copied fine. To this day I can't (ironically) save Sarah McLachlan's "Wait a minute" to my hard drive. 2) When the drive is running there is an intermittent ticking (maybe once every 10 seconds) which is annoying because it makes me feel something is wrong but doesn't affect performance. Overall the drive looks good, it's small and great for my needs. Additionally, it has two Firewire ports that you can connect your iPod to (while the drive is connected to the laptop's only Firewire port).
