Review on Thermopro TM01 Kitchen Timers: Count Up/Countdown Digital Timer with Touch Backlit - Perfect for Cooking, Kids & Classroom Study by Evan Beougher

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excessively, uncomfortably loud.

The timer is well built and well designed in many ways, but in one way I hate it. It's over the top, uncomfortably loud. Other reviewers have commented on this. The timer has an adjustable volume, off-low-mid-high, so you might think that would solve the problem, but it doesn't, as even the low setting is uncomfortably loud. A high setting will deafen your ears when you are nearby. A kitchen timer doesn't have to be as loud as a fire alarm because this timer will sound. It's a harsh, annoying noise, not the pleasant or friendly noise you want in the kitchen. The tone will beep every time you press one of the buttons, so if you set it to 10 minutes you will have to listen to it 10 times. . You can hold the time button to increase the numbers fast, but the speed is too fast and if you exceed your number you have to press two buttons to clear it and start over. To turn off the key beep, you must turn off the alarm sound completely, and you must hear all sound levels (including deafening) to turn the alarm sound back on. The timer is beautifully built and has a wonderful display, but the audio performance is a deal breaker. Another reviewer suggested muting the sound with a few layers of duct tape over the alarm speaker, but the buyer shouldn't do that. Despite the good workmanship of the timer, I am not satisfied with the purchase. The design needs to be changed to provide a lower bass sound and add a way to permanently mute the login button.
