Dual monitor users - check resolution and refresh rate compatibility

I have been building computers for over 20 years. Gone are the days when something just worked. To my surprise, modern docking stations aren't all the same and can be very limited in supporting things like multiple monitors. To make matters worse, it's very difficult to find out exactly what's supported and what's not. While these products claim to support dual monitors, you can use either or both and very low resolutions and/or refresh rates.
