I've read comments about many different types of CD holders for phones. Many said they either got in the way, didn't fit very tightly in the CD slot, or bounced a lot. Others said the magnets weren't strong enough. This doesn't protrude at all, looks very nice when the phone is unplugged and fits very well in the CD slot. They offer three different thicknesses of rubber so you can get a good fit. My phone is an iPhone 6S so it's not as big and heavy as the newer iPhones but I put a larger rectangular magnet on the back of the phone itself and then a thin protective case on the back of the phone and the magnet holds it in place.
