I can understand why some people thought this would break easily, but it's not a chainsaw. It's just a grater and doesn't require much pressure or force. If you have trouble using a grater, try a larger grater attachment. I use it to grate VERY hard cheddar/parmesan cheese. I put in a roughly 1.5" x 1.5" cube of cheese and don't press too hard and it actually works well. I like the big grate and it's a really smooth grating action. friction tube) for easy cleaning, and I haven't found any spots where the cheese gets stuck and can't be removed. I also like to soak it in hot water before washing. You can also wash in the dishwasher, but we don't run it every day. So I have to hand wash. I've also found that we actually use/throw less cheese because there's so much less mess.
