Although they have a cute design and ear loops to keep them in place, they fit snugly around a child's face. I was expecting at least some protection when I bought them for my kids to wear to school, but you can see through them and feel your every breath, so I'm not assuming there's much protection given the model itself from dust offer. They work better as a headband as they stretch and fit snugly. It's definitely not a protective coating.
