Bought this steerer tube extension for Giant Bike, ROAM-1. The extension is perfect for the steerer tube (28.6 mm) and the existing Giant handlebar stem (31.8 mm). The finish quality is good but is a bit more textured than the existing Giant spacers as well as the spacers that come with the Triwonder extension. This does not affect the functionality of the elements and does not affect the quality of workmanship. Installation NOTE. Anyone attempting to fit any brand of steerer tube and/or handlebar extension to this bike should be aware that the upper and lower bearing races will move as soon as you loosen and/or remove the stem. The bearings will not fall out BUT the required tension on the upper and lower bearings will be lost and you will damage all bearing surfaces if you do not hold them properly when reinstalling. So after you have placed the new steerer tube extension onto the fork tube and installed the required number of washers and then reinstalled the handlebar stem onto the new steerer tube extension, you will need to tighten the steerer tube extension (2). screwed onto the fork tube just enough so that it does not rotate freely left or right. Then tighten the (2) hex head bolts on the stem in the same manner. Next you need to insert the stem cap and long hex bolt into the stem and fork tube and tighten until the stem cap turns easily. The last step is very important as it correctly attaches the lower and upper bearing surfaces to the head tube of the bike frame. This is best done with the front wheel and fork off the ground, but can be done on the ground if needed. Begin by rotating the handlebars left and right slightly while slowly tightening the stem's hex bolt. Continue rotating the handlebar slightly left and right while slowly tightening the hex bolt until you feel NO up, down, left or right play at the top of the fork and bottom of the new steerer tube extension. DO NOT overtighten or you will damage the bearings and rings. Now line up the handlebars and new fork extension with the bike's top tube so everything looks straight. Finally, tighten the hexagon head screws (4) on the steerer tube extension and handlebar stem, done.
