Because the cord is so short, you must bring your mattress (or any other item) right next to a running machine to fill it. We chose this model for camping. because we thought it would be more powerful/reliable than battery powered. This turned out to be very inconvenient as we had to drive our car to the tent to fill the mattress (which goes through the tent door when empty). I think a lot of people buy a pump for something like this, so it's worth noting that it's REALLY annoying to stuff the mattress so that the cord barely reaches either side of the car. If you have a big or tall truck, chances are it won't even drive out of the car. It also fills up very slowly. Our friends had both Intex cordless and cordless models and pumped each other faster than this one! We've used it for both the mattress and water toys and it lasted forever compared to other pumps. It's a big problem when your car is running and wasting gas all the time you're using it, and you're crouching right next to the exhaust pipe to use it. It gets two stars because it actually worked as an air pump and didn't break straight away or anything, but I'd recommend getting another Intex pump model instead of this model, at least for most situations.
