This bulb is approximately the size and shape of a typical 60W incandescent bulb. The outer jacket provides additional protection for the coiled tubing, which contains mercury, which poses a health hazard if spilled into an occupied area. The warm white color rendering corresponds to a 60W incandescent lamp. Those are his good points. The disadvantages are too many to list, but here are the main ones: * It causes radio interference. I like listening to AM radio as I'm in an area where the FM band is and when the stations turn their stations down at night I can't use them because it creates so much noise that the station is pretty much drowning out becomes. If the transmitters run at higher power during the day, the hash was still noticeable in the test, but to some extent tolerable. However, I don't need an electric light during the day, so the usefulness of this bulb as a lighting fixture is rather limited. During my testing, the lamp was placed about 2m from the radio.* The cheap phenolic paper circuit board and other internal components heat up and give off a phenolic odor when the lamp is operating. Long-term exposure to phenol is a known cancer risk, so this lamp should only be used in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Do not use it close to your head as a reading lamp.* It takes about a minute to warm up and give full light even when turned on at room temperature. Forget about using it in security lighting systems, garage door openers, etc. where you need instant full illumination. (It is also known that cycling CFLs on and off drastically shortens their lifespan.)* Like all fluorescent lamps, they contain mercury and should be treated as hazardous waste if they eventually burn out.* My previous experience with Greenlite products has not helped. It was nice. Other products of theirs that I have tried have failed well before the warranty expired, but they do not honor their warranty and do not respond to correspondence. My local Ace hardware store sells these Chinese made bulbs for $0.25 each, so under production. Price. The utility sells them in stores in more quantities than they can sell, but we all pay obscenely high electricity prices for useless work. I bought one from Ace to test out thinking the low price wouldn't break my budget, but I'm starting to think it's not even worth the small amount I paid for it.
