I want to start wearing hearing aids so I need a speakerphone not a headset. I've spent years and hundreds of dollars looking for a speakerphone that I could use in my home office for hands-free conference calling. So far everything I've tried has had very poor sound and always had to pick up the phone when I needed to talk. In the end, I settled on something more "professional" and, based on the price and reviews, chose the Polycom Voicestation 300 analog conference phone. .The very first thing that struck me is the lack of a display, so you can't see the caller ID you're dialing or any other information about the call. My fault for not looking closely at the picture and assuming that devices like this all have a display these days. But I can live with that as I just keep a compact cordless phone on my desk so I can see caller ID and other information on it. Then when I started using it, I told people I had a new speakerphone and asked them how I sounded. Everyone said it sounded good, but also that I was far away. This was surprising given that the mic in the closet I placed it on my desk was only 2 feet away. When I leaned over where I was a foot from the mic, everyone said "much better". Again this was surprising as this phone is supposed to be good for a small conference room and I only use it in my home office (converted into a small bedroom). But I can live with that and just lean in when I speak. Overall, this is a massive improvement over speaker desk phones in the $100 range and works well for me in my home office while making small adjustments. I mentioned. However, if you want a true conference room phone, this may not be for you.
