I bought this to match an existing invisible fence in a house we recently bought. We knew the fence was over 10 years old, but we had no idea where the boundaries were. I didn't have high expectations but figured it was less than $50 so it was worth a try. Having moved less than 2 months ago I still haven't unpacked many of my garage boxes. I'm happy to say it took me longer to find the tools I needed than it did to find the fence AND the first break. I knew where the wires went into the house to connect to the transmitter, but I had no idea where the fence came from. I was able to find the fence within 2 minutes. As I started walking down the trail I found the first break within the next 2-3 minutes. I dug around, found both ends, fixed it and moved on. I was able to trace the entire fence on the 2.5 acre property, dig up the broken wires and fix it in about 3.5 hours. This included a wooded area behind which was partially overgrown and very dense. I am very impressed with this tool. This saved me hundreds of dollars (if I had hired a fence company to do it) and/or an entire weekend or two digging new wire. Follow the instructions and this tool will do exactly what it is supposed to do. Update: I should add that I was able to accurately find fractions within 2 inches. I used a straight hammer for digging and usually only had to dig a hole that was about 4-6 inches long and the width of the hammer jaws. Move about 4 inches and do the same to find the other end. Connect the two and move on to the next.
