My 9 foot tree did fit. And it came with 4 straps to tighten down the branches. But there wasn't a single moment, either when the bag was empty or filled with a tree did it ever resemble a rectangle. I envisioned it holding that shape so it didn't just look like a lump of red in my garage, but that's exactly what it is. Not sure how sturdy it will prove to be, but the tree did easily fit.
