While this is a great sponge filter (no doubt about it!), it may not be what you need. First off, it's HUGE! I underestimated its size. I have a heavily planted 40 gallon tank of driftwood and I had a hard time squeezing it in there. It never comes out. Second, if you want small aeration bubbles, this isn't it! The bubbles are HUGE too. I can try hacking the Airstone I read about. I bought this to use as backup filtration and aeration with a battery powered pump in the event of a power outage as I live in a hurricane lane where we can lose power for days! (I lost a few fish after Hurricane Florence). It wasn't hard for me to let her drown. Read the instructions and there will be no problems. I soaked it in a bucket of purified water for an hour with intermittent compression. TLDR: It's huge and has big bubbles. Soak it first so it will drown.
