I converted my trailer to 7 pin to add reverse lights and then sold my truck (which had a 7 pin). The price of installing a 7 pin pin on my new2me highlander was crazy for backup lights. So I put a switch on the reversing lights, hooked it up to the running lights, and that was what it took to make a 4-pin connector out of a 7-pin. I don't have brakes on the trailer and I don't use the power pin so it's a good job as I mainly wanted reverse lights in campgrounds or other dark places so turning them on before reversing isn't a big deal. If I find myself with a 7-pin car again in the future, I might rewire the junction box on the trailer and use the 7-pin directly. Before that, it saved me from having to pay for additional wiring to get a 7-pin connector. Then I tried to find an easy way to attach it to the car, but it moved too much for me to be sure it would hold up. Instead I chose to connect it to the trailer. Instead of drilling holes, I bought a second connector bracket to attach to the trailer's tongue, one that went forward, which I placed under the connector, which I upgraded as well, and a rear bracket that went under the jack screw . The adapter is screwed to both brackets. Very reliable, nothing dangles. I had to add a 4 pin extension to get to the car but still significantly cheaper than the other options. Drove back and forth 500 miles and lit up like a Christmas tree. Very happy with the results. I will update if anything changes. I leave the trailer inside when not in use.
