This remote thermometer is fairly easy to use and comes with a single folded instruction page on glossy paper. The instructions explain the controls very well (although they had some English translations) and let you know how to get the most out of this device. I have used this thermometer and the ThermPro model I bought for beef a few years ago. Brisket I cooked in my offset smoker. For the most part, both thermometers read the same temperature (or within 5 degrees of each other) most of the time, allowing me to monitor the internal temperature of food from different parts of the house. One of the advantages of my ThermPro is that it has two sensors, one for the meat you are cooking and one to check the temperature of the BBQ grill. I like this second sensor because it lets me know when to get out and start firing. This thermometer only had one sensor, but they offer a two-sensor model for $5 more. Like ThermPro, this thermometer has a range of settings to alert you when food reaches a certain core temperature, and preset settings for beef and pork. , chicken, etc. So if you like steaks that are well done, medium, medium, etc., you can place a thermometer on the beef and it will alert you when it reaches a certain "done" level. (The button for this is labeled "Button".) I tried the "M Well" setting on my chest and the preset warned me when it hit about 165 degrees. I just turned it off and waited for my other thermometer to tell me it had reached its preferred 190-200 degree range. it is in foil. I reinserted both probes, put the meat back on the grill and saw that this thermometer read about 20 less than my ThermPro. I turned it off/on, took out the probe and put it back in, but to no avail. Eventually I got distracted by other things and when I came back to check both thermometers were within 5 degrees of each other. My batteries (Duracell Optimum - discussed separately) were fairly new, so I have no explanation for the temperature difference. Overall I think this is a good roast/smoke thermometer but I prefer the dual probe model. It costs half of my ThermPro model and has almost the same features, but the inexplicable temperature difference doesn't allow me to fully trust it.
