The light is solid and well built. I was surprised as it was quite cheap. I agree with some reviewers on three things: the base is too small, the gold paint on the inside gives a yellow glow, and using 40w incandescent bulbs doesn't produce much light. Well in my case the base wasn't an issue as I was doing a clean install so I used a 4" switch box that completely covered the 5" base. I solved the second problem by painting the inside of the cans with Rust-Oleumust-Oleum Appliance Gloss White epoxy spray paint (I left the rim gold for a decorative effect). Eventually I bought some GE Ultra Bright LED 100W EQ CA12 daylight bulbs which run at 5.5W and put out a lot of light. At first I thought of sending the lights back, but I wrapped them in plastic and taped them to protect them while painting. The process didn't take as long as it would take to take her to a UPS store.
