A 1/2 Forstner bit is required for flush mounting.

It won't sit flush with the table you rest it on unless you do a little extra work. I installed it on an oak table and had to drill holes in the wood to make room for 4 mounting tabs. Not really the worst, just a little annoying. The 1/2" Forstner bit did its job perfectly.
