The Garmin Nuvi uses a different USB pinout for charging. If you plug a standard mini-USB cable into the Nuvi, it thinks you want to transfer data and doesn't jump into navigation mode without a fuss. At least that's how mine works. When I bought this item I didn't know if it had a mod. And if it had a mod, it could be implemented in either a cable or a charger. But it was cheap, so I took a chance. I was happy to know that the mod comes in a cord meaning I can use it with any charger, which I did. I use the cable from this kit with a small dual outlet charger so I can charge my Nuvi and phone at the same time from the same outlet in the car. Due to the modified cabling that allows this cable to function properly as a power cable, it cannot be used to transfer data between the Nuvi and a computer, so you will still need a standard cable to do this.
