These little ink pads were perfect for our use and the colors were great accents for the color and black and white photo cards we make. They are permanent but not instantaneous and give you a short time to loosen (we used cotton pads or cotton swabs) before trying again if you didn't achieve perfect alignment on the first try. It worked on glossy paper. I'm not sure if this does the same thing on an absorbent surface. Make sure your stamp is no bigger than a notepad. We used the small letter and number stamps from the popular interactive stamp set and it was great.
