Simple leather sleeve: Does what it should

My Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen has a clip that is too tight for a polo shirt, so I decided to get a pen sleeve to protect the pen when I put it in my jeans pocket. I didn't want to pay a lot of money for some of the alternatives out there, so I was happy to find this one. This sleeve looks good -- the leather reminds me a little of a baseball glove: nice and thick, finished on the outside and natural on the inside. Like a new baseball glove, it's stiff, too, so the pen doesn't just slide in and out. Instead, the trick is to squeeze the "seam" end and the "fold" end together to "open" the mouth of the pen sleeve, and then it's easy to get the pen in and out. The stiffness of the leather holds the pen very securely once it's in there. My pen is 5 1/2" capped and it has about 1/4" of headroom to the top when it's in the sleeve, which works for me. I don't have it jammed down into the sleeve as far as it could possibly go, though, so you might have more room for a slightly longer pen.The only downside is that, like most other pen sleeves out there, this one doesn't come with a pocket clip. The only one I've been able to find that does (and it's also leather) is for the Livescribe Echo: Livescribe Universal Premium Case The Echo is a pretty wide-barreled pen because of all of its internal electronics, so your pen will probably rattle around a little if you go that route, and the magnetic closure isn't the most secure thing in the world, but. it has a clip. And if you have a big pen, like a Parker Duofold or a Sailor 1911 Full-Size, it could be a good choice.

Pros
  • Natural leather inside holds the pens very securely, won't just slide in and out, protect your fountain pens very well.
Cons
  • The product being sold without a pen included means additional expenses, which might not suit everyone's budget
