Review on πŸ”Œ D-Link EXO AC1750 Wireless Router with Enhanced Dual-Band Wi-Fi Performance (DIR-869) by Jeff Addison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great low-level networking device - Fully compatible with Openwrt Linux to extend its capabilities

Thanks to the minimal Openwrt distribution for embedded systems, this device now runs real Linux. It works fine as a SOHO wireless router and I can configure this device with CLI with ssh2 access, better than the original GUI. I installed this toy with Python 3 and I'm experimenting with network automation with Ansible, so I'm integrating a DIR-869 (low-end device) into a network programming lab with professional network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Cumulus and Arista). Results: I am impressed with this little dog. This is my honest opinion as a network engineer. However, you must connect your device to a Linux network to use these advanced features. On the other hand, if you update the firmware on D-Link official website, the default GUI is suitable and reliable for the user world.

Pros
  • Quick replacement
Cons
  • Almost never
