I bought this because Comcast increased their monthly rental from $11 to $13 effective January 1, 2019. I've always had a gateway (modem and router in one device). I know most techs who said they should buy a separate modem and router. However, I've never had a problem with the gateway unit and didn't want to have 2 units in the house (my personal choice). We also do not trade in games or similar things. I also have a triple play package with Comcast (internet, cable and phone). I don't care about landlines, but triple play is cheaper. SETUP - says it's easy to set up and takes about 15 minutes. That's right, BUT there's no getting around it without calling Comcast! You can't just switch cables and phone lines and push a few buttons. They MUST call Comcast so they can register the device and connect everything on their end, BOTH the internet and the phone line. You CANNOT do this without calling them no matter what these reviews say. I called early in the morning at 7:30am because I didn't want to wait forever like you usually do when calling Comcast. I was lucky and had two women (one for the web and one for the phone) who knew what they were doing and made the process very easy. I was afraid to call Comcast! When you call, first press the invitation for internet services. Get this setup. However, check your landline connection afterwards. You will not hear a beep. Tell the Comcast agent you don't have a dial tone because the internet person doesn't know about it and thinks they're done. They should connect you to another agent who will manage the phone connection. CHANGE WiFi name. Once you've got everything working with Comcast, it's very easy to change your network names if you want to. I'm not a techie, but I didn't want the network names to be the same as the Motorola device. At first I was scared because I thought it would be a process and another hour of my time. See page 6 of the Motorola Owner's Manual for instructions. It only took 2 minutes to change network names. However, if you do this, you will need to log into your internet AGAIN on all of your devices and enter your password. Not a big deal, but be aware that changing the network name will disconnect you and you'll have to log in again. Overall I am very happy with the device and its connectivity. I just want people to know, TO COMPLETE THIS PROCESS YOU MUST CALL COMCAST, REGISTER AND CONNECT YOUR DEVICE (internet and phone). Much luck.
