I buy them on subscription and save money otherwise it would never have occurred to me to change the AC filter. They seem to be doing their job well. I don't have a carpet at home so dust or hair (I have 2 dogs) slides in and out easily. They fit great and when I change them there is always a bunch of stuff on the filter so it seems to be working like it should. What I like about them is that they are quite durable. Other brands I've bought don't hold up well and after a week the cardboard flexes and sucks leaving gaps for dust and other particles to enter the unit. They stay strong all the time so I don't have to worry about that anymore.
