These seat covers had a strong chemical odor when opened so I washed them in warm water and let them air out for a few weeks. Then when I tried to put them in the front seats of a 2003 Corolla, they were too small. I don't know if washing with soft warm water reduced them or not. However, I would expect the car seat cover to withstand washing in warm water so that the covers can be cleaned regularly and do the job of providing an easy-to-clean surface for the seats. I gave it a three because the colors, pattern, and design were nice and they feel solid enough.
