The instructions for this aren't very well written, but it might be intuitive to someone who's made knobs before (I haven't). Anyway, my daughter and I got mad because the tip didn't curl around the pen. A few days later I gave it another chance and it worked. The "trick" is to "grab" the top and bottom handles and squeeze them together during the second crimp. It didn't just "take" by squeezing the handle - oh, and the pen back needs to be rotated 180 degrees from what is shown in the picture or the pen will secure upside down. All is well!
