I bought this on purpose because it was a quiet machine, but it has a compromise. I have a larger dehydrator that I use mostly for venison, but it's so noisy that we have to keep it in the basement when it's in use (the noisiest part is the fan). The downside is that it doesn't work as well as the big ones. Yes, it dehydrates food, but if you want your food to be crunchy like crackers or potato chips, this isn't for you. First thing we tried were banana chips, but after 18 HOURS of dehydration at top speed, the bananas were still chewy/sticky. It was the same with all the other dishes we tried. I took off another star because the trays are not machine washable. Seems picky, but really? All other brands are machine washable, so why not machine wash? In addition, the trays are very fragile. Fragile plastic, looks like styrofoam. I've had it for a week and two of the trays have small cracks.
