I was confused by the large number of positive reviews combined with a large number of very negative reviews. Mostly people either thought the softness was just right, or they thought it was as hard as glass. So, I have nothing wrong with my knees. I'm 65 years old, male, and weigh 155 lbs. I didn't want a pad that had my knees sinking through to a hard surface below - had one of those, hated it. I can see that for people like me, and heavier, this is a great pad. For those with fragile knees, maybe even arthritic knees etc, this is not the right pad. For those people, you need more cushioning and I'd advise trying something at a local store.
