I would like to give 2 ratings - one for the looks (five stars), one for the installation process (one star). I bought two of these to show my 3 year old's work. They look great and I'm so glad I bought them. But the instructions were lousy. I've always been a very capable woman, but if I'd taken on this project a few years ago (before I got a job where I use tools every day) I would have really screwed it up and called my dad to save me . - You will need a drill, a set of bits and a pin gauge. These plastic wall anchors are included, but given the tension needed to hold the wire and the weight of what you're hanging, finding a bolt seems important. I think using those stupid wall anchors would be a disaster. Second, you will need a tape measure and a spirit level. I was lucky enough to borrow my dad's laser level, but I bet I could find it the old fashioned way. Third, you'll need a pair of good wire cutters. I used a few small ones, I need to cut the wire for the necklace and it didn't work at all. If I could get the job done in a decent hour, I'd borrow ordinary wire cutters from a neighbor. My arm hurts from using these little cookie cutters and I think I probably mixed them up for future use. I use them to display art, but my instructions should work if you're hanging curtains. So after marking your studs and making sure your holes are even, drill a pilot hole for the screws that go into the wall. (I'd remember what size bit I used, but honestly I didn't think I'd write a manual) All the parts use the same small allen key, including this one. This is a really bad design flaw as it's very easy to strip a bolt and ruin a cheap allen wrench. If I hadn't bought two of these I would have been temporarily defeated at this point - I was able to open another package and use the second allen key for the rest of the job. So completely eliminate the Allen key for this part. . You can fully fasten the next fastener (the one bent 90 degrees) to the screw and then use it as leverage to drive it into the wall. Be very careful with this part - I was worried the entire time because I was sure I would break the 90 degree fastener as well. Luckily it worked as I had already removed the hex head from the screws. Measure the distance between the drilled holes and cut the wire. ***Add a few inches of extra wire - it's easier to cut it off if it's too long than to go out and buy new wire. the end. I had to go through the hole with a drill because there was debris in the hole and the wire didn't fit. Take a small piece with two hex screws, loosen the screws and place it on the wire. Tighten the set screws, leaving the end of the wire sticking out 1/2-1 inch. Now line up the end of the wire with the 90 degree bracket (attached to the wall) and screw in the ball (clamp the small part surrounding the wire between the brackets). You will be tempted to screw the ball all the way in - don't do it. Fasten it so that it barely covers the threads - you'll have time to adjust the tension later. Do the same with the other end - don't forget to put the ball on the wire first. At this point, if you're really unlucky, you'll have to move the clasp up and down with the adjusting screw until the tension is right. You may even have to cut the wire. If you cut the wire too short, remember that you have an extra 1/2-1 inch on the other side and you can use that if that helps. Once you have the length you want, adjust the balls so they have good tension on the wire and the fasteners look straight. If you're like me, you've got spares. Plastic wall anchors (crazy) and two small fasteners with a set screw. If using this for curtains they are wired to prevent the hooks from slipping over the end brackets. They snap onto the wire and you tighten the set screw where you want it. Hope this helps you! From start to finish, with a few breaks at Oreo, the installation took about an hour and fifteen minutes. 2. Good luck!
