Save yourself good for me

I purchased this to protect my hardwood flooring around the desk in my office. I unrolled it and was generally happy with it for the first day. I went about my business the next day rolling the chair across it only when I would get up to take a break from using my computer. That’s when I first noticed it. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a small piece of lint that appeared to have broken loose from the mat. I thought nothing of it and placed the lint in the trash and went back to my computer. Over the next few days this shedding would occur occasionally at seemingly random, yet increasing intervals. After the first week the accumulation was beginning to become an annoyance. I tried using a vacuum, but within a matter of hours the lint had replaced itself on the floor. At one point I mistakenly dropped a pen. It never hit the floor. I glanced down in disbelief as it was nowhere to be seen. This was but the first of a few disturbing incidents that I can recount whilst the mat was in my possession. I know it to be mad, but the only conclusion I could come to was that the lint had opened its abyssal maw, swallowing my pen and God knows what else. As the floor began to disappear under a layer of fuzz, I would occasionally rifle through the lint in vain attempts to recover lost belongings. I lost track of time. I feel as though this mat has always been here. That it is a part of this home. It wasn’t until I finally left the room again and gazed down at the hardwood floor throughout the rest of the house that I gathered the resolve to do away with this torment. I turned back to the door, lint seeping through the crack under it like the roots of an ancient tree attempting to spread to every inch of the forest. I rolled the mat up and it whispered to me in a thousand tongues as I carried it to the curb. I pray that the poor soul who stumbles upon this mat after me will have the resolve to withstand its grip on their life. My hardwood floors may fade, but my resolve never will.
