We started making bean soup on Halloween night. Shortly after, friends came over to get us some food, so we hung out with them outside, which seemed like only a few minutes. About 30 minutes later we were back in a smoky house and a very good cauldron caked with what appeared to be three inches of blackened coal. We've tried several methods to get rid of this stuff: boiling lemons, old-fashioned scrubbing, curly explosives, praying and ignoring for weeks. We finally tried Bartender's Friend and all I can say is that miracles happen in a cardboard tube. It still took some strength, but it worked. The pot that was given to us 20 years ago looks almost new. My forearm is now the size of Popeye and it still hurts, but I've never been so proud of an achievement in my life. And I'm an astronaut.
