As the description says, it's definitely a soft TPU. Often in the description it is stated that the back is transparent, when frosted over it it is really transparent for the most part. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it has "free advertising" on the transparent back. Above the apple symbol is a stylized, matte "P" and below the apple is a matte, capitalized POETIC letter. POETICS is small and unobtrusive; the "P" is annoying because it's about the size of an apple and too present. But even with the pesky "P," it's a light, thin lid that adds very little to the iPad's size and weight. If you keep your iPad in a tight place like a pocket, satchel, etc. and it won't fit in a bulky case; This case would be a good choice.
