Why a traditional peeler is better than a straw in this set

Do you know that there are some products that you've used since you were a child that you feel you can't live without? That's how I feel about my potato peeler: a fake 1930's Heuck Marvel Peeler sold under the Feemster and DeVault names. I love this peeler because it makes peeling potatoes or carrots easier. It has a triangular shape and is designed to be held in the palm of your hand, being an extension of your hand. When using such a knife, your hands do not get tired because you do not squeeze your fingers around the handle of the knife. Also, the blades on my regular ones only move slightly, so you peel the skin off without rotating the blade. Currently the potato peelers are shaped like the main peeler in this set. You should wrap your fingers around the rubber grip. I bought this set thinking the second knife was a different shaped Y knife that also allows you to use your palm. Well, it turns out the Y-blade is a julienned vegetable cutter. So if you want very thinly sliced veggies or fruit for salad, you're done. I should have looked more closely at the list. Although I ordered something different than what I thought, I've used them several times for carrots and potatoes and they do the job better than any modern brand. I will say that I like the super sharp blades on these OXO cleaners. They seem to clean well and the blades don't flap like some brands. The base of these knives is easy to hold, comfortable and has indented non-slip handles. You really have to be careful with the straw peeler as it's easy to cut too quickly and cut yourself. While I love this product, I'll probably stick with my dedicated mandolin because it has protection that keeps me from clumsily cleaning myself. Also, I can get longer rinds with a mandolin than with this hand-cut julienne. I'll probably use julienne more sparingly if I just want to make a small piece of carrot, apple, or whatever as a garnish. While these OXO tools can probably be washed in the dishwasher at times, I prefer hand washing to keep the blades in the best condition. condition and prevent water from penetrating inside. Overall, these OXO cleaners are well made and while they don't have the shape of my favorite cleaner, they do the job well. Both products in the cleaning set are easy to use. My hand gets tired from this, so I still prefer to use my traditional vegetable peeler when peeling a lot of potatoes.
