Review on 🚴 Enhance your cycling experience with the Garmin Out-Front Bike Mount - Standard Packaging! by George Robinson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

There is a difference, but a small one.

This mount effectively moves the Edge forward two inches and down slightly, placing it in front of the stem and handlebars. Is it easier to see your Edge's display while driving? Yes, but a little. We're talking about 2 inches. Does the front mount reduce drag? In theory, mounting the Edge to the handlebars creates little drag. But Edge is so small that this resistance is imperceptible. Is the front mount more secure than the included handlebar mount with rubber straps? May be. I read that other people had problems with rubber bands that weren't reliable enough. I've had an Edge 500 for five years with just the handlebar mount and rubber bands that came with it. I used it on three bikes plus a rental bike on a week long Backroads trip in Glacier National Park. I've never had any issues and have always made sure my $250 bike computer is securely attached to the bike. But if you're not so sure, rest assured that your Edge will be more secure in the front mount. Is the all-plastic construction a problem? Fasteners from other companies are mostly made of metal. But the Garmin out-front mount is made of high quality plastic and looks well put together. I'm sure it will take years. Bottom line: if money is tight, skip it. It doesn't matter and the price is high considering what it is. (It doesn't seem plausible that Garmin would cost more than a few dollars a unit to make them, plus another dollar for shipping and distribution.) But if you can afford it, it's worth a try. The difference is small, but noticeable. You don't have to tilt your head as much to see the display, which is a bit more comfortable and safer. Other reviewers seem to think that the front end makes a huge difference in comfort and security over the handlebar mount. While I disagree, I respect their opinions and encourage you to read more positive reviews before making a purchasing decision.
