I hate myself for not getting it before it all went wrong.

TCP. Drove around adding coolant every time I got an overheat warning until my water pump, hose and thermostat all died. It cost me too much to fix the whole thing only for the overheating problem to come back as the tech never bothered to look at the tank. And so, $18 and 5 minutes of YouTube installation instructions later, I solved my problem. Since then no more overheating. This part is recommended in almost every Cruze related article and video, so get it ASAP and save yourself money and headaches.
